A Submagic alternative, compared honestly

By Yuval StruttiFounder, Solara AICompetitor prices checked

Submagic has the best captions in the category and it publishes, which most of its rivals do not. Two things are worth knowing before you subscribe: the $19 plan caps a clip at two minutes, and the passes that make a video look produced — auto-zooms, premium templates, the brand kit — start at $39.

Every figure below was read off Submagic’s own pricing page on 28 September 2026. This page is published by Solara, so check the numbers — they are all theirs.

Table of Submagic tiers showing AI captions and free b-roll on Starter at $19, with auto-zooms, premium caption templates, brand kit and Storyblocks beginning at Pro $39, 4K export at Business $69, and clip length caps of 2, 5 and 30 minutes
The two-minute cap on Starter is the limit most often discovered after paying — the headline price is quoted without it.

When to stay with Submagic

Stay if captions are the thing you care most about — Submagic is the specialist, its template library is the largest in the category, and it has been iterating on that one problem longer than anyone else. Stay if you film regularly already and the editing is genuinely the only gap, and stay if you want control over each clip rather than a video that arrives finished.

Switch if the real problem is upstream. Submagic needs footage you have already filmed — and for most owner-operated businesses that footage does not exist, which is why the subscription goes unused by the third month.

What Solara costs

$29 a month, with all six production passes on every video, no length cap, and publishing to Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. It writes the script for your business and texts you when to film it.

There is a one-off $150 pack of three fully edited videos if you want to see the edit first, and a managed plan at $299 a month where a team does the whole thing.

Common questions

What is the best Submagic alternative?
If you want the same job done differently, Opus Clip and Captions are the closest substitutes, and CapCut is the free option. If the reason you are looking is that Submagic needs footage you have not filmed, none of those help — they all start from material you already have. Solara writes the script, texts you when to film, then runs six production passes and publishes, at $29 a month.
How much does Submagic cost in 2026?
As of 28 September 2026, Submagic is $19 a month for Starter, $39 for Pro and $69 for Business, with annual billing bringing those to $12, $23 and $41. Starter gives 45 credits, which Submagic equates to 15 videos a month, with a two-minute cap per clip and 1080p 30fps export.
Does Submagic have a video length limit?
Yes. Clips are capped at two minutes on the $19 Starter plan, five minutes on the $39 Pro plan and thirty minutes on the $69 Business plan. It is the limit most likely to be discovered after subscribing, because the headline price is quoted without it.
Is Submagic worth it?
For a creator who already films regularly and wants the best caption styling available, yes — it is the specialist and its template library is the largest in the category. It is a weaker fit if you need b-roll, auto-zooms or a brand kit, because those start at $39 rather than $19, or if the actual bottleneck is that you have not filmed anything this week.
Does Submagic post videos to social media?
Yes. Submagic schedules and publishes to social channels from inside the editor on every paid tier — one profile per platform on Starter and Pro, three on Business. This is a genuine advantage over Captions, which does not publish at all.
